    Bucknell University seeks a vibrant, student-centered Rabbi to serve as Chaplain for Jewish Life who will inspire and guide the Jewish students, so that they will actively engage in the process of building and sustaining a vibrant, meaningful, and pluralistic Jewish campus community.

    Bucknell invites candidates who are forward-thinking and committed to strengthening the Jewish community on campus (where approximately 7% of the student body self-identified as Jewish.). The Chaplain for Jewish Life will oversee all Jewish activities, and holidays. The Jewish chaplain oversees a generous programmatic endowment as well as the Berelson Center for Jewish Life - a community space on campus that offers a kosher kitchen and a warm environment where students can explore their cultural and religious identity. This position reports to the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life, and supervises the Program Coordinator of Jewish Life.

    As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life seeks to provide for the religious & spiritual well-being of the Bucknell community. The Office of Religious Life is an integral component of Diversity and Inclusion at Bucknell University and works in concert with International Student Services, LGBTQ Resources, Mutlicultural Student Services and the Women's Resource Center. The mission of Religious and Spiritual Life is brought to fruition by providing pastoral care; sustaining vibrant student-center religious communities; offering robust multi-faith opportunities (including fostering a safe environment for religious learning and spiritual exploration); and encouraging exploration of meaning and purpose.

    • A pluralistic approach to Jewish life, an ability to inspire Jewish young adults and the character to serve as a role model;

    • A passion for engaging students through Jewish learning and religious practice and an ability to foster intellectual, spiritual and ethical curiosity and exploration;

    • Ability to articulate and develop a big picture, intentional vision for Jewish student life, while following through with colleagues on implementation and execution of a stated vision; and

    • An entrepreneurial mindset that supports innovation and risk, as well as learning from failures.

    Job Duties:
    The Chaplain for the Jewish Community will:
    -Identify the needs of the campus Jewish community and develop strategies for meeting these needs with proven community organizing, outreach and relationship-building methods.
    - Create a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere within the Berelson Center for Jewish Life and on campus. Ensure that multiple points of access to Jewish life and pluralistic Jewish community thrive.
    -Advise Bucknell Hillel and provide mentorship and guidance to the leadership team and members of the organization.
    -Coordinate and lead Shabbat and Jewish holiday services.
    -Collaborate and work with the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life and Chaplain for the Protestant Community, Chaplain for the Catholic Community, Chaplain for the Muslim Community and other religious advisers to promote multi-faith community and learning.
    -Engage and partner with offices within Diversity and Inclusion, the Division of Student Affairs and other university departments to ensure cohesive programming and services.
    -Collaborate with the Office of Admissions on recruitment efforts of Jewish students.
    -Manage the budget of the Jewish Life in alignment with university fiscal policies and procedures.
    -Supervise and support the Program Coordinator for Jewish Life and student staff.
    Work with and provide outreach to Bucknell's extended constituencies such as alumni, parents, area Jewish community members and Jewish organizations.
    -Attend all Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Diversity and Inclusion, and Student Affairs departmental and divisional meetings and retreats.
    -Serve on departmental, divisional and university committees.
    -Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability to students, staff and faculty.
    -Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    -Rabbinic ordination from an accredited rabbinical school
    -Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor students
    -Strong knowledge of Judaism and Jewish life, and commitment to creating an inclusive, vibrant and pluralistic Jewish community
    -Experience with Jewish programming, including but not limited to experiential learning, Jewish education
    -Experience working with young adults in an educational or inter-religious setting
    -Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
    -Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    -Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, and build consensus and support
    -Ability to effectively interface with a wide variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff, prospective students and alumni
    -Sensitivity to issues related to socioeconomic class, gender identity and expression, sexuality, race and ethnicity, privilege and power relationships, religious identity, and transitions to adulthood

    This position requires evening and weekend availability.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    -Experience with budget management
    -Significant knowledge of special populations of college students and demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to first generation, underrepresented, and marginalized student populations
