The Westminster Foundation of West Virginia is a 501(c)3 organization headquartered in the Campus Ministry Center (CMC) in Morgantown, WV that:

• supports Presbyterian and reformed campus ministries at public colleges and universities throughout the state of West Virginia; and directly employs two campus pastors serving West Virginia University (Morgantown) and Marshall University (Huntington).

We are seeking a WVU campus minister who will oversee Presbyterian campus ministry, including the WVU Presbyterian Student Fellowship (PSF) which is a UKirk campus ministry that seeks to build a community which enables students to deepen their faith as lifelong followers of Christ. PSF offers regular programming that provides opportunities for fellowship and witnesses to God’s inescapable grace and unconditional love for all. In addition to the Campus Ministry Center, PSF provides programming for the Harless Center at Central Place.

Ultimately, the WVU Presbyterian Student Fellowship intends to offer a progressive Christian message rooted in the traditions of the PC(USA) to any student—inclusive of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, denominational, or religious background.

The primary goal of the campus minister will be to build and maintain relationships with students, the university, and local congregations. Student engagement is accomplished through weekly programming, both at the Campus Ministry Center (CMC) and Harless Center.

Our regular schedule (modified for COVID protocols) includes PSF meeting weekly on Wednesday evenings for dinner, fellowship, and worship. Dinner is normally offered weekly on Sundays at the Harless Center. The Faith and Life Speaker Series is a Lilly funded program that brings presenters to lead discussions on various issues of faith.

In addition to the Leadership Competencies indicated in our Ministry Information Form (posted on the denomination’s Church Leadership Connection), a qualified candidate will be both outgoing and approachable. Campus ministry is inherently transitional. As a result, we are seeking someone who will engage and recruit students that are in a variety of life stages—not only incoming students. Pastoral care also plays a big role in campus ministry. And so, we hope that our campus minister will be supportive to students with a variety of pastoral needs.

The campus minister will also be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Campus Ministry Center. In order to accomplish this task, a qualified candidate will need strong administrative skills. Responsibilities will include overseeing CMC staff and interns, assisting the Board in donor development and fundraising, and on-campus marketing.

Specific duties of the Campus Minister include:

Oversees the facilities, maintenance, scheduling, programming, interns/staff, budgeting, and assists the Board with fundraising and marketing for the Campus Ministry Center.

Leads the Presbyterian Student Fellowship group and maintains a relationship with First Presbyterian Church Morgantown and other local Presbyterian congregations on behalf of the campus ministry.

Develops and maintains a relationship with WVU through student/faculty/staff engagement, serving on committees when asked, and is available for general pastoral care within these communities.

Coordinates events for students with First Presbyterian Morgantown, reaches out to congregations to solicit names of WVU students, prepares annual reports to Synod, Presbytery, Westminster Foundation of WV, and funding organizations.

Oversees implementation of Lilly Endowment Grant and Sustainability grant, which includes retreats, Faith and Life speakers, internships, and ministry teams.

Takes advantage of continuing education and networking with colleagues in campus higher education ministries, including colleagues in ministry in WV, Presbytery clergy peer group, and the PSF-Ukirk Board. Partnering with the Marshall campus minister colleague for curriculum development and other ministry opportunities would be ideal and preferred.

As Executive Director of Harless Center, this person will coordinate weekly programming and make reports to the Harless Center Board, which oversees the Harless Center at Central Place.

A qualified candidate is either ordained or certified ready to receive a call in the PC(USA). A Ph. D is preferred, but not required. Preferred campus ministry experience of 2-5 years.

Salary Range: $48,000-$58,000. Housing allowance.
