College

FLSA Status: Exempt, nine-month appointment
Summary
The Director of the Center for Faith and Culture and Chaplain of the College serves as the spiritual guide for the William Jewell community. As Director of the Center for Faith and Culture, this position oversees church relations and affiliations with other religious organizations for William Jewell and administers the day-to-day operations of the Center. As Chaplain, this position leads worship on the campus and coordinates student ministries. This position also provides guidance and support to administration and staff on spiritual matters and articulates the College’s perspective as a Christian institution of higher learning that is welcoming of all faiths and perspectives.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Works closely with the Theologian-in-Residence of the Center for Faith and Culture to advance the Center’s Vision to foster spiritual exploration, authentic dialogue, and contemplation of the known and unknown in pursuit of wisdom, healing, and human flourishing.
· Serves as the spiritual guide for the institution, leading prayer and reflection at Convocations and other significant events in the life of the College.
· Engages churches, synagogues, and mosques on Jewell’s behalf and especially regarding programming offered through the Center.
· Administers all aspects of the Center’s outreach and marketing, budgeting, and billing.
· Organizes and leads worship and Chapel services for the College that are designed to be welcoming to all members of the Jewell community and beyond.
· Assists students in ensuring that they have opportunities for spiritual exploration through activities and organizations.
· Responsible for leading and organizing the College’s Baccalaureate service.
· With Student Life and the Music Department, coordinates special events such as Hanging of the Green and Lighting of the Quad.
Position Requirements
- Ordination in a Christian faith tradition required.
- Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred.
· Minimum of five years of experience in church ministry.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multiple constituents.
- Superior ability in verbal and written communication.
· Ability to advance the Mission of the College through outreach and community engagement.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Requires evening and/or weekend work sporadically.
