It is a tremendous honor to welcome you to the Association for Chaplaincy and Spiritual Life in Higher Education (ACSLHE, pronounced “axle”)! We are made up of chaplains, directors and deans of religious and spiritual life, and more. We come from diverse religious backgrounds, races, LGBTQ identities, and life experiences. We serve at institutions of higher education across the United States, from small liberal arts colleges to large research institutions. We serve the needs of undergraduates, graduate and professional students, faculty, staff, administrators, and local communities. We are diverse in many ways but united in our sincere desire to serve.

ACSLHE is committed to supporting chaplaincies and religious and spiritual life professionals as they support the needs of their own communities. Higher education is rapidly changing, and we know that now more than ever chaplains and religious and spiritual life professionals are needed to help ground our communities. We walk with our communities through both the pain-laden and joy-filled moments of their lives. We are called upon to accompany students, faculty and staff as they face an uncertain future, offer care in times of crisis, elevate religious literacy, nurture interfaith communities, and show commitment to movements of justice and inclusion. We learn from each other and endeavor to be a place of support and advocacy for our profession. ACSLHE is made of its membership and we look to you to get involved and add your voice to the conversation.

These are difficult times and as chaplains and religious and spiritual life professionals we have been there to hold the grief and the pain. We hope ACSLHE can be a place for you to exhale and to be renewed and inspired. Join us for our monthly virtual gatherings, share resources and make connections across the field. We are excited you’re here and please don’t hesitate to be in touch!

With gratitude,
