University Chaplain and Director of Spiritual and Religious Life HOLLINS UNIVERSITY

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of University Chaplain and Director of Spiritual and Religious Life.

This position is responsible for leading campus religious life, conducting worship services, and encouraging spiritual development among students of all faiths in the university community. They are responsible for leading, developing, and implementing a vibrant and comprehensive spiritual and religious life program for Hollins students and campus community members. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, this individual works closely with a variety of offices, including, but not limited to, Health and Counseling Services, Campus Security, Housing and Residence Life, Student Activities and Orientation, Cultural and Community Engagement, Academic Success, and the Music Department. They are also a member of the university’s Emergency Response Management Team, and are available for support and referral as needed by students and employees.

Successful applicants must have a master’s of divinity degree, be an ordained minister, have a minimum of five years of ministry experience with some time focused on working with youth or college students, and experience organizing service-learning/volunteer opportunities. Commitments to interfaith engagement and education, diversity, inclusivity, and belonging are required, as well as demonstrated success working with diverse populations. Candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, customer service, counseling, conflict resolution, decision-making, problem-solving, presentation, training, organizational, and multitasking skills; and proven abilities to meet deadlines, make sound judgments, manage confidential and sensitive matters, work effectively with multiple constituencies, and be flexible and forgiving. Microsoft Office proficiency is needed, as are ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as scheduled and needed, and ability and willingness to respond to emergencies as needed. Additionally, applicants must have a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations and a personal automobile that’s available 24/7. Preferred candidates will have experience with small, private institutions.
