    Under the general direct of the Chaplain and Director for the Center for Faith and Service (CFS), the Chaplain Resident and Coordinator of Community Engagement will direct the Office of Community Engagement as well as offer spiritual support and leadership for students through individual spiritual care and campus programing. In addition, they will serve as a liaison between Westminster College and the broader community related to community service/engagement. The Chaplain Resident will teach one course per semester in the designated departments. This is a two-year position and includes a campus meal plan and housing (if available or requested).  


    Essential Functions:

    • Crafting programs and initiatives with other Offices of the Center for Faith & Service (this may include religious/spirituality programming, service opportunities, educational programs, diversity related programming, etc.). 
    • Meeting with and providing spiritual/pastoral care to students, while collaborating and referring to Wellness Center counselors/staff when appropriate/needed. Serves as an institutionally designated Title IX confidential source. 
    • Serves on committees within the department, division, and college as deemed appropriate by Chaplain/Director of CFS. 
    • Other initiatives and duties assigned as determined in collaboration with the Director of the Center for Faith & Service based on candidate interests, emerging campus, student, or student life needs. 
    • Teaching one academic course a semester based on the expertise of the candidate and institutional need (e.g. Religious Studies, Westminster Seminar, Leadership Studies, etc.). 
    • Coordinating the Office of Community Engagement
    • Creating and coordinating opportunities for student involvement in communities beyond the Westminster College campus including annual programs such as Alternative Spring Break, regular blood drives, and other volunteer opportunities. 
    • Responsible for collecting and reporting student service hours to Chaplain and/or Vice-President/Dean of Student Life. 
    • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with community partners, which can include attending events, participation in community event planning, and regular communication with community non-profits and/or church organizations. 
    • In the absence of the Chaplain/Director of CFS represent the college at ceremonial functions including but not limited to Convocation, Lessons and Carols, Baccalaureate, Commencement, and other college lectures and events as requested.  

    Job Requirements:

     Education: A graduate degree in theological education, including, but not limited to an MDIV, MTS or similar degree. Must have graduated in Fall of 2021 or in Spring or Summer of 2022, or have earned their degree from an accredited institution within the last 12 months. 

    Experience: Ordination is not required; however, the candidate must have a self-awareness of their own spiritual commitment(s) and desire to help others foster their own spiritual/religious understanding. Commitment to working with minoritized and multicultural populations is required. Experience in any service oriented positions or service-based learning is optimal but not required. Some teaching or facilitation experience is preferred. 

    Skills: The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to creating meaningful encounters for students of multiple worldviews and identities, a deeply rooted commitment to their own spirituality, a passion for mentoring and journeying alongside traditional college students, and a robust understanding of ethical service. Because this position works closely with the Office of Intercultural Engagement, we seek someone with a welcoming, inclusive theological paradigm who thrives in an multi faith environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates an enthusiastic interest in exploring ministry within the ever-shifting context of higher education.
