    EMORY UNIVERSITY

    MUSLIM CHAPLAIN

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide outreach to the Muslim community and help to connect, coordinate, and build resources for Muslim life at Emory
    • Lead or coordinate religious and educational programming and provide pastoral care, as well as leadership in community service, social justice, and interfaith initiatives
    • Work with the Dean of Religious Life to relate with university leaders and stakeholders across the university to ensure a pluralistic campus climate and accommodation in academic policies, sacred space, dining, housing, and other needs
    • Work with students, faculty, and staff and serve as a liaison to families, alumni, and the wider community, while also attending to administrative duties
    • Partner with the chaplaincy team to foster and encourage cross-community interfaith programs aligned with the vision and goals of Emory’s Spiritual Life Strategic Plan
    • Support a pluralistic approach to the tradition—supporting the practice of all major branches of Islam.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Graduate degree or equivalent training in Islamic studies, divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, chaplaincy, or a related field
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in chaplaincy/religious leadership or young adult/campus ministry within and across the Muslim community, which may include internships
    • Demonstrated experience in interfaith dialogue, engagement, and leadership and social justice awareness
    • Experience in higher education and understanding of young adult development through a student empowerment and community-organizing approach
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Program planning, implementation, and assessment skills
    • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
    • Utmost discretion and highest standards of professional ethics
